Killer Guppies

In the little more than a year since the Killer Guppies formed, the team has evolved from a rag-tag group of misfits to a rag-tag group of misfits with really cool matching shirts--and a trophy for being Division IV Champions at the 2000 Long Beach World Cup Dragon Boat Tournament! The Killer Guppies started from a small nucleus of dragon boaters returning from last year, accepting anyone who expressed an interest. The team grew as members invited their friends to check it out (and through some twist of fate, enough of them continued to show up for practices). That method of recruiting has made the roster a diverse group of people. The team includes students, professionals, teachers, and artists, hailing currently from all over the Los Angeles area (although some trace their origins from other parts of the U.S., and others as far away as Asia and Australia), most of whom have been paddling only a short time while others have been dragon boating for 2 years. The common bond: an inexplicable need to get up early on Sundays. Beyond the dazzling wardrobe and impressive victory at the Long Beach tournament, the Killer Guppies are a fun and interesting group of people for whom all the local teams should buy drinks. Look out Dragon Boat World, here we come!!!!

"The dragon dares not cross the river if it is not the most furious one," according to a Chinese proverb, and, that had inspired our motto: KILL...KILL....KILL...
